This was today in the rain. Candidplatz. That is the Mittlerring - main loop around Munich. It has sides on it for noise reduction. This poplar (cottonwood) had to go to make room for future construction plus cottonwoods don't belong near people due to their weak/brittle characteristics. At least we had a lift.

This is how we left things for the day. An 044 just wasn't big enough to get anymore down. Tommorrow........

No new pics so here is a series from a frosty day in December 2004. This pine had to go since it was leaning so much.

When you can do it, footlocking is the fastest way to get into a tree.

Going up. The foot lock was so long that I had to join 2 rope that were each 120 foot to make the climb.

Face cut looking good

Back cut

Falling top

Top is gone. It was necessarry to leave stubs since I had no spike to climb with.

We had to fell these leaners over the hot tramlines! Only 4 in total. The 1st one here is a birch.

One of the 3 lifts we used today. One was on tracks and just not quite big enough. This one was huge. The 3rd one was an isolated bucket. With that one, you could grab the tramlines.

After felling willows and poplars since work started this year, we did som electricity work today. I hate eletricity!

Snow and about 33F for a finish. Clearance and removal of poplar trees next to the Mittlerring for the next few days. Candidplatz 6km.

Think of warmer days
First day of work for the 2005 season. Winter is so bitter in Munich that tree work comes to a halt in January and February. I spent Jan visiting Texas and Feb touring Vietnam. It is March 9th now. Glad we waited until it got warm - 28F and snow.
