Top is gone. It was necessarry to leave stubs since I had no spike to climb with.

Yes, it did die because we felled the entire tree. Leaving stubs can come back to haunt you when removing a tree. By no spikes, I mean gaffs (pole spikes). I left stubs to stand on.
